‘War and Peace’to Feature at Shanghai International Film and TV festival

　　Atotal of 54 entries, selected from around 800 international productions, will vie for this year\'s Magnolia Awards when the curtain goes up for the Shanghai International Film and TV Festival on Monday.
 

　　The selected entries will vie for honors in four categories — TV series, documentary, variety and animation. This year, the festival runs until June 10.

　　Chinese television productions such as the historical drama “The Legend of Miyue,” epic series “Nirvana in Fire,” fantasy series “The Journey of Flower,” and the spy series “In The Silence”— all screened on Dragon TV — are in the running in the TV series category.

　　Most of these productions have enjoyed high viewership rates and received critical acclaim from critics.

　　German production “Letter to My Life,” British drama “War and Peace” and French series “No Second Chance” are some of the foreign entries in the same category.

　　Founded in 1986, Shanghai International Film and TV Festival has played an influential part in shaping and developing the domestic TV industry.

　　Local fans can look forward to the popular American fantasy series,“Game of Thrones,” that will be telecast on local channels, such as International Channel Shanghai and Entertainment Channel.

　　Mainland actor Zhang Guoli, known for his performance in the family drama “Gold Marriage,” will chair the jury panel in the TV series category.

　　Celebrated American producer Lois Vossen will be the jury president in the documentary category. He is the founder and executive producer of the PBS documentary series “Independent Lens.”

　　Serbian writer, film critic and director Bozidar Zecevic, known for his documentary short “General od Loch Fynea” and TV film “Britanski gambit,” will judge the animation category.

　　There are 10 entries vying for the best documentary film and series awards. Among them are British documentary “Shark,” South Korean production “Numbers,” Spanish series “After the Mist” and Japanese series “Tora’s Family — 22 Years Story.”

　　The variety category will feature the popular shows of recent years including “Sing My Song,”“Super Brain,”“Amazing Chinese” and “Super Diva.”

　　Veteran TV producers from all over the world will also be in the city for cultural exchange programs and new possibilities for cooperation. They will talk about the popular genres on television and the future of online series and variety shows.

　　This year’s event will also include an international TV market, Magnolia TV Forum, master class of TV production and China formats pitching.

　　The Magnolia TV Forum will discuss the trends and experience of Asian TV Drama Industry, new ecology of variety shows in the E-era, localization of overseas intellectual property, new opportunities for Chinese documentary industry and children’s film and TV drama.

　　The awards ceremony will be held at Shanghai Oriental Art Center on the evening of June 10.
