WENG Tiehui
Vice Mayor of Shanghai
Chairman, STVF Organizing Committee

As the 20th Shanghai TV Festival unveils its curtain in June, I would like to, on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and Shanghai TV Festival Organizing Committee, warmly welcome our friends from all over the world to gather together in Shanghai!

Culture is the spiritual flag of a country, a symbol of civilization of a city, as well as an indispensable stimulant and supporter for the process of modernization. Chinese culture has not only inherited profound tradition through 5000 years of history, but has also kept up with the times, containing distinct characteristics of the 21st Century. It is our duty and our challenge to promote Chinese culture based on our current national conditions, and to take a place on the new international stage amongst a global, multi-cultural backdrop. Since its’ founding in 1986, the Shanghai TV Festival has taken on this responsibility and has become an international TV festival that integrates awards, market dealings, venture capital and forums. With its specialty, foresight and innovation, Shanghai TV Festival creates a magnificent stage for the communication of TV culture between China and other countries with the function of cultural exchange, industry congregation and economic stimulus. This year’s Shanghai TV Festival will gather highly qualified elite guests and resources in the industry and conduct a fair and authoritative process of awarding. While exploring the direction of the TV industry, the festival will bring us opportunities to discuss difficult problems and hot topics. At the same time, it will continue to foster a market of international, professional, diversified and comprehensive TV culture in order to contribute to the construction of this international cultural metropolis.

I sincerely wish the 20th Shanghai TV Festival a great success!
