The 20th STVF Calls For Entries
The 20th Shanghai TV Festival (STVF) is now calling for entries and applications. The official online submission for the Magnolia Award starts on December 15.
The online portal will also open for application to the STVF International Film and TV Market as well as the New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market.
The 20th STVF will run from June 9 to 13. Founded in 1986, STVF includes award presentations, market trade, project pitch and catch, and forum.
To award the best and support the innovative, STVF’s Magnolia Award has cooperated with major international TV festivals and strengthened communications with different countries to promote Chinese TV overseas.
In 2013, more than 1,000 productions from over 50 countries and regions applied for the TV festival\'s Magnolia Awards in TV film/Miniseries, TV Series, documentary and animation.
In order to fully and better encapsulate the defining features of Shanghai TV Festival -- Professional & Progressive, Fairness & Equality -- some changes have been made for 2014.
The Organizing Committee has cooperated with Deloitte, one of the Big Four international accounting companies, for recording and preliminary processing of voting. Also, about 50 individuals throughout
Among them are A-list directors and scriptwriters, such as Zheng Xiaolong and Li Shaohong, and many TV industry professionals and experts, including representatives of the academy, broadcast platforms and TV series producers.
Also, the TV Film category has been changed to TV Film/Mini-series to include popular mini-series in western countries.
STVF also has launched the Foreign TV Series Awards in the Magnolia, building on its collaboration with Tokyo Drama Festival and Seoul Drama Festival. Since 2008,STVF has successfully promoted “Soldiers Sortie” , “Mawen`s Battle” , “Beautiful Daughter in law” and “Three Kingdoms” which won awards abroad.
In 2013, popular American drama "Homeland", which was as renowned as the previous year\'s winner “Downton Abbey”, won the Magnolia program\'s “Foreign TV Gold Award.” And “That Winter, The Wind Blows”, recommended by Seoul TV Festival, won the “Foreign TV Silver Award”. This award not only deepens understanding among TV industry experts, especially the mutual understanding between Asian and western experts, but also stimulates global audience interest in TV series.
In 2013, nearly 400 domestic and foreign exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions participated in the International Film and TV Market as well as its New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market; 40% were foreign exhibitors.
Industry giants like CCTV, SMG, Warner Bros, Disney, KBS, NHK, ITV and others all appeared in the program market, while many well-known equipment suppliers including Panasonic, Sony, China Digital Video and Dayang Technology Development were attracted to the equipment market.
In order to further enhance STVF’s “platform” function, the market offered more product promotions and launches. It also offered business negotiation rooms to provide professional and personalized service for TV industry experts to talk in a harmonious atmosphere.
STVF will have its 20th grand gathering in 2014. With a bigger festival and more professional activities, the Organizing Committee will invite more stars from home and abroad to witness the glory of the 20th STVF.
