New High Resolution 4K Video makes its Shanghai Debut

Shanghai Media Group released China\'s first high-resolution 4K TV video yesterday at the 19th Shanghai  TV  Festival.

Starring around 50 famous local TV anchors, the five-minute video Fast Forward creatively depicts a futuristic urban life against the backdrop of Shanghai\'s magnificent landmark city scenes.

The audience experienced a big increase in resolution, picture quality and color accuracy from the video which was produced using the new 4K film technology. The sequences portrayed in vivid detail drops of water and the flying hair of a fast-running dog.

The video\'s director Zhang Changzheng said that a more immersive viewing experience is produced through 4K.

However, he said it also presented new challenges to directors, actors and even costume artists as viewers could now see more clearly the delicate expressions of people and their movements.

The 4K technology has been so far used only in trial broadcast situations such as sport and nature documentaries. U.S. internet streaming service Netflix\'s recent smash hit series House of Cards was also shot in 4K.

Shanghai Media Group executive Guo Weihua predicted 4K will be a dominant new trend in the global TV industry.

"It may open a new era of television and even influence the way TV producers tell the story," Guo said.
