Thai TV dramas are becoming increasingly popular in China following the heat generated by Korean TV series.
More TV drama series and star concerts of Thai TV are on their way to China in the future, Thai government officials said at a press conference yesterday.
This year is Thailand\'s debut at the Shanghai TV Festival to promote Thai TV, according to Piroon Laismit, consul general of Thailand in Shanghai.
The officials note that Thai dramas have proved to be a good way for Chinese audience to learn about the unique Thai culture and tradition.
Thai heartthrob actor Nawat Kulrattanarak who is widely known as Pong, said this was his second visit to Shanghai. His fame in China was established by his role in the romantic TV drama "Battle of Angels."
"The Shanghai TV Festival is such a big event," Pong said. "I feel so glad to be here. To my surprise, Thai TV dramas are so popular in China. I hope all of you will enjoy my next drama."
The press conference also attracted veteran TV producers from Thailand who are seeking for more openings to bring Thai TV series and concerts to China.
Takonkiet Viravan, from production house Exact Co. Ltd, said he always compared Thai dramas to Thai food, which seemed spicier than other foods in the world.
In his eyes, what makes Thai dramas so popular in China is their exotic flavor, appealing story line and the versatility of actors.
