Industry Flocks to Festival
More than 200 TV stations, producers, and distributors from all over the world will join with over 1000 buyers in the International Film and TV Market at Shanghai Exhibition Center this week.
The market, running concurrently with the International New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market, is part of the 17th Shanghai TV Festival from June 7 to 9.
Zhang Ming, Film and TV market manager, said that representatives of new video websites will rub shoulders with executives from traditional TV distribution companies. He emphasized the great interest in this year\'s market. Domestic exhibitors attend include major broadcasting groups like CCTV, SMG, GBS and ZRTG. Well known film and TV companies like Hairun, Huace, Changcheng and Yinrun will also be represented.
About 40% of exhibitors are from overseas, underlying the internationalization of the festival. Participating countries include Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Australia, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Philippine and Mexico.
Big name companies like Warner Bros., Walt Disney, ITV and NHK and other famous TV networks, have been visiting Shanghai TV Festival for many years. Tudou.com, Youku.com, LeTV.com and QQ.com will also participate in the market. As online shows are getting more diverse and popular, the genre has become a new power in the market.
Organizers have provided several services to meet visitors\' needs, including hosting introduction meetings and news conferences, and setting up meeting rooms for discussions and negotiations.
Apart from TV drama programs, this year\'s market will also include other genres such as animation. An annual highlight since 2008, the Asian Animation Pitch & Catch (formerly Animation Project Pitching) has helped to develop the standards and international reputation of Chinese animation.
The only platform for animation and investment, it includes three parts: project selection, professional forum, and project negotiation. The pitching is designed as a platform for people linked to original animation works and capital investment and facilitates discovering new talent and expanding the market.
In 2010, six excellent projects were sent by Shanghai TV Festival to a youth program market at Cannes for exhibition and discussion. They attracted attention from 234 international buyers, including Nickelodeon, Disney, BRB and the Cartoon Network.
The theme for this year\'s International New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market is "Cloud Computing and the Integration of Telecom, Broadcasting, and Internet Networks."
Numerous exhibitors specializing in TV broadcasting technology will join this year\'s market, including Sony, Panasonic and STR. Apart from new age professional equipment, the market will also present the latest high-tech television terminal products.
According to market manager Song Xinguo, this year\'s event will continue to focus on the frontier of science and technology and promote the concept of "communication and corporation" technology within the industry. Attendees will see more presentations of 3D TVs, high-tech display terminals and LEDs as more top companies present latest designs.
Song also said that the concept of "cloud computing" and its advantages in systems\' operations would be reflected in the equipment market.
