STVF Announced the Full List of its Jury

 

Director and actress Jiang Wenli, documentary producer Shi Jian, and French animation director Frederick Dybowski will lead the jury panel of the Magnolia Award in this year’s Shanghai TV Festival. The four sections are TV Film, TV Series, Documentary, and Animation. The STVF will run from the 6th to the 10th of June.

Jiang Wenli will chair the jury panel for both the TV series and TV Film sections. She is the recipient of almost all the domestic professional acting awards include the Magnolia, Golden Rooster, Golden Eagle, and Ornamental Column. She is known for Hand in Hand, Gua Sha, Big Family, and Golden Anniversary. She won the Best Actress award in the 14th STVF for Golden Anniversary. Jiang’s new series When Happiness Knocks, also starring Sun Chun, has been screened recently. Jiang Wenli’s debut venture into the film industry with Lan won her the Asian New Talent Film Award for Best Feature Film at last year’s SIFF. In addition, Jiang was invited to be a juror of the Golden Goblet Award at the 8th SIFF in 2005.

Director Hou Yong, screenwriter Liu Liu, directors Wang Jun and Ronin Qu from Taiwan, China will join the jury panel for TV series.

Hou Yong is also the juror for the TV Film. He is a cinematographer-turned-director and worked with Zhang Yimou on The Road Home and Not One Less. As a director, he has succeeded in both film and TV. His best known film Jasmine won the Festival\'s Grand Prix at the 7th SIFF in 2004. In recent years, Hou Yong has made Dangerous Beauty and Brave the journey to the Northeast Ⅱ, both of which garnered much critical attention.

Liu Liu has become a popular screenwriter for her successful adaptation of novels into TV series. She is regarded as an authority on modern marriage and other social rituals.

Wang Jun is the first masters-degree holder among young Chinese directors and his TV plays cover many subjects including the idol drama Goodbye, Vancouver, the epic Four Generations under One Roof, wartime spy drama The Last 99 Days, the chronicle play Cangzhi, and the urban romantic comedy My Beautiful Life.

Ronin Qu is a well-known idol drama director from Taiwan, and his TV series It Started With a Kiss, Love of the Rose, and No Reservations were popular and made Joseph Cheng, Ariel Lin, Patty Hou stars in Taiwan. He has won the Golden Bell Award several times.

Another juror in the TV film section is renowned German producer Norbert Sauer. He has produced over 300 TV films and won numerous awards both home and abroad.

French director Frederick Dybowski is the jury president for animation. His Under the Sea and YS Legend reached a global audience. Joon Kim who is also a senior Korean expert in animation, and Wang Ying, animation and children\'s television program director, are the jurors for the section.

Shi Jian will lead the jury panel in the documentary section. As a founder of “Son of the East”, he has been devoting himself to Chinese documentary development and his representative works are Tiananmen (square), The Potala Palace, and Zhou Enlai. The jury panel also has famous French documentary director Pierre Watrin, and Shen Keshang from Taiwan, China.

The 17th Shanghai TV Festival will be held from June 6 to 10. In addition to the Magnolia Award, there is the International TV Program Market, International New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market, Asian Animation Pitch & Catch and Magnolia Forum, the Student TV Festival and People\'s Choice for TV Series. Now each section is closed, showing both a qualitative and quantitative increase, especially in the most popular TV series section.

STVF will announce the nominees for the Magnolia Award in early May.
