Retrospective of the 60th Birthday of Leslie Cheung, Recounting Classical Moments of the Elder Broth

 

Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) announced on April 1st that the “Paying Tribute to Masters” section of this year will hold “Review Exhibition on the 60th Birthday of Leslie Cheung”, which is the 13th anniversary of the death of Leslie Cheung. Through careful consideration, the list of movies which fans are interested in has been confirmed, including a total of seven classical works of Leslie Cheung in different periods:”A Chinese Ghost Story” co-starring Joey Wong (1987),“Days of Being Wild” for which he was awarded the Best Actor of Hong Kong Film Awards,”Once a thief” which witnessed the last screen appearance of Cherie Chung,“All’s Well, Ends Well”(extended version) and “The Bride with White Hair” in cooperation with Brigitte Lin (1993),”Moonlight Express” in cooperation with Japanese actress Takako Tokiwa, and “Double tap”(2000) which marks the transition of Leslie Cheung in his later performance career.

Many regard Leslie Cheung as an extraordinary artist who made great achievements in singing and performance with a legacy of classic songs and characters in TV dramas and movies. Throughout his 24 years of acting career, he performed in a total of 56 movies.

He won the Best Actor of Hong Kong Film Awards in 1991 for his excellent performance in “Days of Being Wild” which was the first and the only one of its kind that he received ever. Nevertheless, every and each role that he created with profound dedication has been widely recognized, which carries more weight than awards. On top of being an idol, he is also an actor radiating distinct performing characteristics and screen charm.
