Welcome Speech by TIAN Jin

As the 16th Shanghai TV Festival opens, on behalf of the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all guests and friends who have travelled from far and wide.

This year’s TV Festival is held as the Chinese TV & broadcasting industry is undergoing a transformation.  And the world’s focus is again on China as the Expo is being held in Shanghai.  Against this background, this year’s TV Festival emphasises the deepening conformity of the TV & broadcasting industry, and seeks to create an outstanding brand among worldwide competition.

China’s TV broadcasting industry is becoming bigger and stronger, and is reorganising its structure.  The network convergence strategy (networks of telecom, television and internet) of the State Council and TV & broadcasting industry is conforming its resources and optimising competition.  Chinese people will try their best to create a new industry structure to change the culture of media, and even communication and consumption methods.

A powerful international TV festival in competition, market trading, project investment, and forums, this year’s Shanghai TV Festival will communicate, trade and cooperate around the world to promote the development of new media and network convergence.  This year’s TV Festival will also focus on discovering creativity and originality, promoting industrialisation, and improving public interaction and the influence of the TV Festival.
