Service-oriented and Internationalized
Last year, the two large markets of the Shanghai TV Festival and the Shanghai International Film Festival adapted to the industry development trends, officially merging into the International Film & TV Market. After one year of adjusting, this year’s International Film & TV Market further expanded in scale, becoming the best platform for promoting cross-border blending in the TV and movie industry, Film & TV content production and mutual promotion of equipment and technology.
This year, the “International Film & TV Market” has a total area of more than 22,000 square meters, a total of over 500 heavyweight exhibitors from both home and abroad exhibiting at the venue, creating new highs. Among these, the TV market accounts for nearly 300 media organizations, including CCTV, Croton Media, Great Wall Movie and Television Co., Ltd., TVBC, SMG, New Culture Media, Inlook Media, New Classics Media, MediaCorp, and other veteran exhibitors, as well as Tencent, Le TV and other new media exhibitors.
From June 9 to June 11, the 21st session of the Shanghai TV Festival, the International Film & TV Market and International New Media and Radio and TV Equipment Market will be held in the Shanghai Exhibition Center with a more complete industrial chain, better services and more abundant activities. It will bring new experiences for participating guests.
Complete Industrial Chain and Passionate Overseas Exhibitors
This year’s International Film & TV Market will include Film & TV companies, broadcast platforms, film bases, technology services companies and other exhibitors, from TV shows, film trading, and post and pre-production video equipment exhibitions, to film financing and legal services, each link on the film & TV industry chain will be reflected at the International Film & TV Market. Integration of the film & TV market also allows some exhibitors with services across the film & TV business to retain their booths across the two sections of the market, optimizing resource allocation, reducing costs for attending enterprises and saving on human capital.
As the most international Chinese TV festival, a high proportion of foreign exhibitors is also a feature of the Shanghai TV Festival Market. This year, nearly 80 overseas exhibitors are coming from South Korea, Singapore, Turkey, Italy, the Philippines, Japan, the United Kingdom and other countries and regions to set up a booth. The proportion of overseas exhibitors has reached nearly 40%. In addition, China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan regions are also participating. Taiwan’s joint booth is led by the Association of the Film & TV Production Industry. There is also Korea Culture & Content Agency, the Shanghai Broadcasting & Television Production Association and many several other organizations joining up to attend the exhibition.
Up to International Standards, Complete Service Upgrade
The biggest change at this year’s International Film & TV Market is the readjustment of the market layout as a whole. The most sought-after gold resource in the past -- the Central Hall, was partitioned into a public service area this year. In addition to the TV forum and the official press conference being held here, a reception area, discussion area, and coffee bar will be set up, and will truly give buyers and sellers a place for discussion; guests can participate in the forums and have discussions as they eat, drink and rest.
Assistant general manager and marketing department director of the Shanghai International Film & TV Festival Co., Ltd. Yang Lele said the ideas have been borrowed from international television and film festivals such as Cannes and Berlin. “The Cannes TV Festival covers an area of 6-7 storeys of a building, but each story has a coffee club or lounge area. It is very quiet. As soon as there is an intention to cooperate between buyer and seller, they can easily find a discussion area. But in contrast, exhibitors usually play the main role at domestic exhibitions. In order to attract crowds, each booth turns up the decibels, so it is very noisy. There is the lack of a good social area. The exhibition services are relatively weak as a whole. For our attempt this time, we sacrificed many economic benefits, but also gave everyone the best location. The purpose is to keep people close to this space and make the best use of everything.”
Clearly Defined Exhibition Areas and Brilliant Event Highlights
This year’s International Film & TV Market is divided even more clearly, and is set according to five major themes: The general area which is mainly made up of TV shows and variety shows; the documentary and animation area; the overseas joint exhibition area; and specially designed booths. This division will facilitate buyers in finding what they need faster and in a more targeted manner, improving communication efficiency and in the end helping along program transactions.
In addition, the Shanghai TV Festival will also provide exhibitors with press conferences, reception dinners, on-site screening and other services with the help of the strength of the site of the Film & TV Festival and the official media, better helping exhibitors to carry out promotion and popularizing and reach deals. Owing to the carrying out of the policy of one show and two stars, each large film & TV production company is upping its promotion strength, bringing stars up on to the stage. “Beautiful Secret”, “Cyclone Girl”, and the documentary “I Come from Xinjiang”, will hold release events at the market. Forums, receptions, salons and other special events will also provide a platform for cultural exchange and experience exchange.
The International New Media & Broadcasting Equipment Market, held at the same time as the International Film & TV Market, has brought together the best exhibitors in the Film & TV technology area from China and abroad, strengthening equipment, the mutual relationship between modern technology and programming, and better reflecting the mutual interaction and integration of content and devices, which is a display of the latest developments in radio and TV technology, and a great platform for exchange in the latest broadcast technology.
In summary, the International Film & TV Market will strengthen the functions of display, communication, trade and cooperation, promoting broader and more diverse industry cooperation, and further playing its advantages in boosting industries and gathering resources.
