Three Jury Presidents for Magnolia Awards Unveiled, Yan Jiangang Serves as Jury President in TV seri
Shanghai Television Festival Organizing Committee announced the list of the 21th Shanghai Television Festival jury presidents on May 6. Famous Chinese director Yan Jiangang, Emmy Award winner Richard Bradley and Founder of the Asian Animation Summit Tim Brooke-Hunt head the TV series section jury, the Documentary section jury and the Animation section jury respectively. The 21st Shanghai Television Festival will be held from June 8 to June 12.
Famous Chinese director Yan Jiangang serves as the jury president in the TV Series section, and he is concurrently Vice Chairman and Secretary-general of China Television Director Committee. Yan Jiangang graduated from the Directing Department of Central Academy of Drama. He has provided over 20 high quality films and TV series for audience, including The Dust Settles, My Slave Mother and The Orphan of Zhao. He enjoys the highest reputation in the industry. Yan Jiangang has become attached to Shanghai Television Festival for a long time. The TV series My Slave Mother, directed by him and adapted from Rou Shi’s novel of the same name, won the Magnolia Award for the best TV series at the 10th Shanghai TV Festival in 2004. The Orphan of Zhao on which Yan Jiangang focused in recent years, won the Magnolia Award for the best TV series and the best scenarist award for his outstanding adaptation of a historical story and his profound description of the fates of the characters at the 19th Shanghai TV Festival. He participated in the Magnolia Forum of Shanghai TV Festival in 2014, and he sharply commented The Self-cultivation of TV People. When he was invited to serve as a jury president for the 21st Shanghai Television Festival recently, he happily agreed and said that Shanghai Television Festival is China’s first television festival; it had being been a stage looked forward to and trusted by TV people; I would continue to stick to the professional and authoritative spirit of Magnolia Awards and direct the jury to carry out a fair selection.
The jury president in the Animation section Tim Brooke-Hunt is one of the founders of the Asian Animation Summit. He began working in the Film and TV industry in 1983 and, over the next 20 years he was extensively involved in the financing and production of animation for film and TV. He co-founded Sticky Pictures in 2002. In 2007, Tim was appointed Executive Head of Children’s Programmes for ABC TV, and became Controller of Children’s Content in 2010. His Executive Producer credits include two feature-length animated films and a number of animated TV series. His master productions include Flipper & Lopaka.
The 21st Shanghai Television Festival includes the entry judging, International Film and Television Market, Forum, Magnolia Awards Ceremony and Closing Ceremony, etc. Meanwhile, some special events such as Excellent TV Series Broadcasting, University Student TV Festival, Glorious Evening of Magnolia Awards, will be held.
At present, the entry submission in each section has been completed. Nearly 1,000 entries from over 70 countries and regions have been submitted this year. In addition to the traditional TV Series section that has been concerned about widely, the newly-added Variety section has attracted the best Variety programmes of the domestic major television stations and satellite television stations. The winners in this section shall be decided by the votes of the professional jury of 30 experts. The Organizing Committee will announce all the nominees for the Magnolia Awards in mid-May.
