Top Magnolia awards won by Breaking Bad and hot Korean series
American crime drama series Breaking Bad won the Magnolia Best Foreign TV series gold award announced yesterday by the 20th Shanghai TV Festival.
South Korean TV series My Love from the Star captured the silver award.
Jang Tae-yu, director of My Love from the Star, and the series\' talented scriptwriter Park Ji-eun will visit Shanghai to share their expertise and experience with domestic TV producers. They will also attend the festival\'s awards\' ceremony on June 13.
The South Korean series has impressed hundreds of millions of Chinese viewers and will be aired on the local Entertainment Channel at 10:30pm on June 9.
The romantic show centers on the love story of professor Do Min-Joon, an alien who landed on earth 400 years ago. The handsome Do has enhanced vision, hearing and speed compared to humans. However, just three months before he is about to leave Earth, Do falls in love with the actress Cheon Song-Yi.
The episodes were top-rated in South Korea and the series popularity is widespread throughout Asia. In China especially the drama received more than 3 billion views on major video websites.
The Magnolia Best Foreign TV series award was established in 2008 to enhance international cultural exchanges in TV production.
Officials from the festival\'s organizing committee said they will also provide a platform for pitching, filmmaking and marketing for more original co-productions.
