The impact of new media on traditional TV and industry development trends were hot topics at the first industry summit titled "Post 2012- TV Series Market" held yesterday at Shanghai Exhibition Center.

Renowned film and TV director Li Shaohong, IQIYI.com CEO Gong Yu and other guest speakers discussed new trends around themes that TV series are strongly related to audiences\' daily lives and that new media are not excluded from the TV series industry.

Director Li, also president of this year\'s Magnolia Award international jury panel, shared her ideas about focusing on TV series\' content to develop more diverse subjects.

"Our ideas can change as the market shifts, and we should not ignore the fact that anyone doing creative work is answerable to the market and audiences," Li said.

"We should design our programs, the time frames and broadcast methods according to the audience," she added.

Gong Yu said the industry was highly market-oriented and new media should be doing more instead of just taking its share from the traditional TV platform.

"It\'s not just about sharing a piece of the cake, but using the features of the internet to create more value for our industry in the long run," Gong said.

Zhu Xiangyang, editor-in-chief of Youku, said that it is important to develop appropriate products and services to stay in touch with changes affecting viewers.
