Promising animation Projects Presented at Pitch and Catch
Ten nominated projects were introduced yesterday at the Asian Animation Pitch and Catch presentation during the 17th Shanghai Television Festival. The nominees included TV episodes, shorts and feature films.
The first nominee presented, Qland. is a story about dreams and growing up and the two main characters-Beibei and Lala, are twin sisters. They start an adventure after discovering an Elves Book in their house. The project is planned for 52 episodes per annual season and it targets audiences from 5 to 12 years old.
Most of the project presenters nominated the product\'s potential market value, including possible product and games ideas.
The Adventures of Bauer was adapted from the popular story of the same name by Zheng Yuanjie. Bauer, a toy panda activated by orange juice, is a beloved cartoon character and the film has broad appeal to audiences of different ages. It has potential for different products to be developed, as the presenter demonstrated to the jury with a toy Bauer.
Traditional Chinese elements were evident in some productions, such as Tiny D, Kungfu Legend, and Biography of God Garan.
The Biography of God Garan is planned for 600 episodes, each about 25 minutes long. The story is about a boy learning from Master Jie Lan how to save his sister who has been abducted by an evil monster. It includes elements of traditional Chinese culture and at the end of each episode there\'ll be an anecdote about Garan. The producers also have plans for a film and online games.
Two productions were made by students - Par Par Is A Crocodile and Elves Chapter. Par Par Is A Crocodile was created by Summer Plan, a team of Beijing Film Academy students. Directed by Tan Xiaojia, the story follows a little crocodile named Par Par who is very shy and lives in fear in a town full of cats until another crocodile shows up. Already available on the Internet, the appealing story is attracting many fans.
The international jury panel - consisting of Yang Wenyan, Frederick Dybowski, Hugues Martel, Joon Kim and Wang Ying - will vote according to the projects\' artistic quality and marketing potential. The awards include Excellent Project, Most Creative, and Best Market Potential.
The Asian Animation Pitch and Catch Award Ceremony will be held today from 5 to 7pm.
