Welcome Address by TU Guangshao

The 16th Shanghai TV Festival is now opened.  On behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Shanghai TV Festival Organising Committee, I would like to extend our warmest welcome to all the guests and friends who have travelled from far and wide.

Meanwhile, the Expo 2010 Shanghai, which shows urban civilisation from different countries, is drawing worldwide attention through its distinctive themes and unique planning.  The grand opening of the Shanghai TV Festival is in concert with the objectives of the Expo: to demonstrate and spread China’s image, and at the same time create a perfect opportunity to learn from experience.  Therefore the theme of this year’s TV Festival is “Brilliance of images adding radiance to the ‘visual Expo’”.  Just as the Expo is aimed at enriching people’s spiritual pursuits and broadening the horizons of humanity, for more than 20 years, the Shanghai TV Festival has been dedicated to constructing a high-quality, international and professional TV platform for those in the TV industry from around the world to communicate and cooperate.  It contributes to the diversity of culture in China.

This year’s festival will focus on cooperation and creative inspiration, to empower a gradual and far-reaching transformation of China’s TV industry with international vision and local resources. The power of this platform is harnessed to boost the entire TV industry to international standards, and hence to achieve rapid domestic growth. The Expo has proved once more the significance of open expression in cultural communication.  Therefore this year’s TV Festival will emphasise accessibility and interactivity, to allow the general public fully to enjoy culture through modern information technologies.
