Media Responsibility In Spotlight at Magnolia Summit
A demonstration of the Media Responsibility In the Competitive Environment attracted a lot of attention during yesterday\'s Magnolia Summit, a key event of this year\'s Shanghai Televison Festival. Mr. Ren Qian, Deputy Director, Media Managing Department and Network Audio-Video Programme Managing Department, SARFT, and Mr. Teng Junjie, Vice President, Shanghai Media Group, and Mr. Chang Long Jong, Vice President, MediaCorp, and Mr. Lin Shengfen, Chairman of CTV, President of Taipei Newspaper Guild, and Mr. Chris Morley, Managing Director, China, Nielsen, attended the meeting.
The media industry is not only competitive, but also complex. The global financial crisis in 2008 has had a great influence on all industries. Nevertheless, Hollywood emerged safely from the 1930s financial crisis. And in Korea the cultural industry bounced back after the Asian financial crisis in the 1990s. We can see that cultural industries, especially the media, are not only responsible for encouraging the public, but also have opportunities for development. Facing these important changes and challenges, how do media convey mainstream cultural values to provide spiritual guidance to the public? And how do media develop to meet public needs? Leaders in the industry all over the world were invited to attend the forum to discuss media strategies under the financial crisis. And experts shared their views at yesterday\'s Magnolia Summit.
Ren Qian, Deputy Director, Media Managing Department and Network Audio-Video Programme Managing Department, SARFT, delivered the speech about the media responsibility in the competitive environment firstly. He said that the media responsibility is an obligation, a mission and a moral. And Media should enhance their own credibility, reputation, and influence in order to gain better, faster and more healthy development.
As the host of the Magnolia Summit, Teng Junjie, Vice President, Shanghai Media Group, made a speech about the character of the media in the era of change, and shared the experience of Shanghai Media Group. He said the media should continue to carry forward the responsibility and strength, in an effort to boost the morale of and confidence of the industries fighting the financial crisis.
Chang Long Jong, Vice President, MediaCorp, reviewed the experience of the media coordination during the development. He suggested that the increasingly globalized TV industry should seize the opportunity in the competitive environment and make breakthroughs in this unprecedented crisis.
