The 15th Shanghai TV Festival is inaugurated. I would like, on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Organizing Committee of Shanghai TV Festival, to extend my warm welcome to all the friends and distinguished guests from all over the world.
As China\'s earliest TV Festival, Shanghai TV Festival has committed to building a platform for cooperation, communication and transaction for all these years. Currently, it has become one of the few international television events in Asia that integrate award evaluation, market and forum, contributing to the overall prosperity of the cultural industry of Shanghai and even the whole of China. Though the current financial crisis has had a severe impact on all industries, the cultural industry, however, has been in steady rise. This edition of Shanghai TV Festival strengthens the function of market transactions, reflecting our effort to seek opportunities in the changing situation. Meanwhile, Shanghai TV Festival this year is also people-oriented and interactive, so that the ordinary people can also share the fruits of the country\'s cultural development.
After the 2008 Olympic Games, China will be the focus again for Expo 2010. In keeping with the Expo\'s theme of"Better City, Better Life", Shanghai will make effort to build a "harmonious city". As one of the representatives of the city\'s culture, Shanghai Television Festival is organized around the theme of “Better city, Better life; Better TV, Better Living”, in an effort to pursue a harmonious co-existence of multiple cultures. This is exactly a fine embodiment of the concept of a "harmonious city".
Culture is the soul of a city and the foundation of urban civilization. It is also the spiritual and intellectual support to the city\'s sustainable development. Just as the Expo displays the scientific civilization of modern cities, so the TV festival exhibits the modern television culture. In this sense, this year\'s TV Festival also serves a warm-up for the Expo.
