The 25th STVF Releases Full Jury list of Magnolia Awards

On April 25th, the press conference of the 25th Shanghai TV Festival (STVF) was held in Shanghai, where the jury list of Magnolia Awards and the STVF poster was released. The 25th STVF will be held from June 10th to 14th this year. At present, preliminary evaluation for Magnolia Awards and primary selection for International TV Showcase have been launched. And TV market, STV Forum, Internet Summit, and Magnolia Awards Ceremony, etc. are now in full preparation. TV people and fine works from the whole world will soon gather in Shanghai.

As one of the prominent international TV exchange and cooperation platforms in Asia, STVF is dedicated to launching the “Shanghai Culture” brand, promoting the high-quality development of Chinese TV industry and demonstrating the new creations of Chinese TV workers in the new era. The selection of Magnolia Awards is both a review and retrospect of the fine TV works at home and abroad in the past year, and a weather vane for the future path of Chinese and foreign TV workers.

STVF this year has received nearly 1,000 entries from 52 countries and regions around the world, exceeding all previous editions in terms of quantity, featuring an array of excellent Chinese and foreign TV works with rich themes and diverse styles. Therein, the number of overseas TV dramas has nearly doubled that of last year. At present, the preliminary evaluation of the four major categories of Magnolia Awards, TV drama, documentary, animation, and TV program, has been launched. After the finalists list is out, the Magnolia Awards jury during the festival will conduct a centralized selection. The winners will be announced on June 14 at the Magnolia Awards Ceremony.

At the press conference, the full list of the jury of Magnolia Awards was announced. Among them, the jury chairman of the Magnolia Awards - TV drama, which has always been widely concerned, is the famous director GAO Xixi. GAO Xixi has directed many film and TV works, each with a distinct artistic style and enjoying popularity among enthusiastic audiences, winning for him the China TV Drama Flying Apsaras Awards, China TV Golden Eagle Award and China Huabiao Film Awards, etc. He also has been nominated for Magnolia Awards for the best director for three times. His work THREE KINGDOMS is the silver winner of Magnolia Awards - Chinese TV Drama at the 17th STVF in 2011.

Screenwriter CHEN Tong, actor HUANG Zhizhong, MA Yili, director ZHANG Yongxin will form the jury of Magnolia Awards for TV drama - Chinese TV drama; while for overseas TV drama, American producer, screenwriter Zack Stentz and Portuguese producer and director Leonel Vieira will serve as the judges. American producer Mark Edward will be the chairman of jury for Magnolia Awards - Documentary, with Chinese director FU Hongxing and Japanese producer and director Kotani as the members. American producer and senior animation consultant Max Howard will take the position of jury chairman of Magnolia Awards - Animation, joining hands with judges: Japanese producer Shuzo John Shiota and Chinese animation director LIU Kuo.

At the press conference, the poster of the 25th STVF was also unveiled. The poster, with the large color block of TV signal test spectrum as the main hue, is in multi-segment color spectrum, closely combining audiences’ visual experience with the colorful screen. On the poster, the evolved Magnolia motif is embedded in the spectrum of color. The blending of two visual elements symbolizes the mission of the TV festival: inherit the classics, stay true to the original aspiration, advance with the times, and face the future.

Set up fund to promote rural children’ reading

In 2018, the charity event Magnolia Reading Program jointly launched by STVF and Chlitina has been widely recognized. 2019 marks the 25th STVF, the 30th anniversary of the Hope Project of China Youth Development Foundation, and the 10th anniversary of the joint Lighting Fund Program of Chlitina and China Youth Development Foundation. At such a historic moment, the three, bearing in mind their original aspiration for social welfare, team up to launch the "Lighting Fund" Reading Program, aiming to enable more rural children to read fine books and be skillful in reading, and then to broaden their view and help them establish correct values.

It is learnt that STVF this year has introduced various new initiatives and new activities to forge a more professional platform and promote the exchange of TV people at home and abroad. As one of the key STVF activities, the Internet Summit will be held from June 11th to June 12th, boasting activities including Dialogue Summit, Internet Film and TV Forum, Internet Film and Television Ceremony, and IP Project Program. The Internet Film and TV Forum has set up a short video themed session for the first time, and the animation IP is also included for the first time in the IP Project Program. This year\'s Internet Summit will spotlight the idea of "fine works", giving prominence to the highlights and further expanding the industry\'s influence. The offline panorama of the International TV Showcase will be staged in more venues, and the TV market will continue to present the Belt and Road themed pavilion, etc.
