Call for Entries for the 28th Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards!

 

The 28th Shanghai TV Festival will be held from June 20 to 24, 2022. Starting today, you can register online at www.stvf.com for the Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards in four categories - TV series, documentaries, animations and variety shows.

 

Registration deadline for Chinese TV series and variety shows is March 31, 2022; for foreign TV series, documentaries and animations, make sure to sign up before February 28, 2022. Please provide the complete videos of your program (all episodes).

FAQ

 

Q: Our program is co-produced by a number of companies. Which shall be the one to sign up?

A: If there are multiple producers, you can coordinate with each other and choose one to sign up. When filling out the “Production Information”, please make sure to do so truthfully. One program can only be registered once.

 

Q: Our company’s episodes have only been aired online. Can we sign up for the award?

A: According to the regulations, runners for the Magnolia Award for Chinese TV series should be “TV series broadcast on satellite channels in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) or premiered on major video websites”. If your company’s production is only broadcast online, please select “Broadcast Medium - Website Only” and fill in the “TV Series Distribution License Number” truthfully when you register.

 

Q: High-definition video clips of 3 minutes or less are required for registration. If we have clips of different lengths (30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, etc.), which one should we submit?

A: You can submit all of the clips, as long as they are shorter than 3 minutes.

 

Q: What occasions will the program materials, posters, autographed stills, etc. (which are required by the regulations) be used on?

A: They will be used for the Shanghai TV Festival’s official Weibo account, official WeChat public account and official website to promote the registered programs and interact with followers and audience, among other activities.

 

Q: What should we do if our show is still on air and we cannot provide the video of the last episode at the time of submission?

A: If the last episode is temporarily unavailable, submit other episodes first and the last one can be added later.

 

Q: Can we add logos or watermarks to the samples?

A: Yes, but only if they don’t affect the viewing.

 

Q: Do TV series/documentaries/animations with English dialogues need to be submitted with Chinese subtitles?

A: They can be submitted with English subtitles; additional Chinese subtitles are not necessary.

 

Q: I am a/an director/actor and the show I directed/acted in was already aired last year. Can I apply for the Magnolia Award for Best Chinese TV Series Director or Best Actor/Actress in a Leading/Supporting Role?

A: The subject of the application for the Magnolia Awards in the category of Chinese TV series is limited to production companies (the “filmmakers”) that own the copyrights of the series, so applications from individuals will not be accepted. You can ask the filmmaker to sign up. Once a series is submitted, it will be considered running for all the Magnolia Awards in the category of Chinese TV series, unless the filmmaker specifically disclaims one or more of the individual awards.

 

Q: Can single-episode animations and animated short films be submitted for the Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards?

A: Yes, animated series, single-episode animations or one-off animated shows premiered between April 1, 2021 and February 28, 2022, are eligible.

 

Q: Are there requirements regarding the length of a single-episode documentary?

A: No, there is no time limit for that.
