Registration of programs for the 24th Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards has started on December 20, with online registration available for four categories: TV Drama, Documentary, Animation, and Variety Show on the official website of the festival www.stvf.com.
The Shanghai TV Festival, founded in 1986, includes Magnolia Awards International Television Program Selection, International TV Showcase, International Film & TV Market • TV Market, International New Media & Broadcasting Equipment Market, STVFORUM, Magnolia Awards Ceremony and other integrated international activities. The 23rd Shanghai TV Festival held in June 2017 shortlisted 12 domestic TV series, 10 foreign TV series, 10 documentaries, 10 animated films and 15 variety shows for the award of each category.
The Good Fellas won the Magnolia Award for Best Chinese TV Series. Shen Yan and Liu Haibo won the Best Director award with their work Chinese Style Relationship, which also won Zhang Lei the Best Screenplay award. Zhang Yi and Yin Tao won the Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role awards for their performance in Feather Flies to the Sky. In the Name of People won Wu Gang and Zhang Zhijian the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award, while To Be A Better Man won Guan Xiaotong the Best Actress in a Supporting Role award. The Story of Late Premier Zhou Enlai and Marshal Peng Dehuai were presented with the TV Drama Special Award by the Organizing Committee; Outlander (USA)was named the Best TV Foreign Series, and Redemption Road(Germany)the Best Foreign TV Miniseries; Japan's The Dragon Dentist won the Best Animation award, and the United Kingdom’s Revolting Rhymes the Best Storytelling award; the United States’ TIME: The Kalief Browder Story and Farmer/ Veteran won the Best Documentary Series and Best Documentary awards respectively; the winner of the Best Seasonal Variety Show award was The ReaderⅠ, and Voice won the Best Weekly Variety Show award.
During the 23rd Shanghai TV Festival, the International TV Showcase section provided audiences with an extensive list of “Best TV Series to Watch”, including 10 foreign TV series such as The Good Fight(USA), The Kennedys: After Camelot (Canada), The Memories of Happiness (Japan), Victoria (UK), Redemption Road(Germany), and Hotel Sacher(Austria), and the latest documentaries, 11 from China and six from foreign countries, as well as 14 Chinese and foreign animations.
The 24th Shanghai TV Festival will be held from June 11 to June 15, 2018. The program registration deadline is March 31, 2018.
